Claude Connector Directory

Example prompts

Select a disposable macro-enabled workbook as Active in Companion. Start with read-only inspection, review every diff, and keep the saved local workbook open during normal live deployment.

1. Inspect without changes

Use ClaudeVBA to list the VBA modules in my Active workbook. Read Module1 and summarize each procedure, but do not propose, stage, or deploy any changes.

Expected: status, module-list, and read tools only. The workbook remains unchanged.

2. Validate and show a proposal

Inspect the Active workbook and propose an update to Module1 that adds Option Explicit and handles an empty input range. Validate the complete module and show the unified diff. Do not stage or deploy it.

Expected: read, validation, and proposal tools only, with a visible diff.

3. Stage a reviewed change

Add a small FormatMonthlyReport procedure to a standard module. Show and validate the diff first. After I approve the proposal, stage it and show the staging diff. Do not deploy.

Expected: nothing is written before approval; staging creates a local staging copy and backup but does not modify the live workbook.

4. Deploy after explicit approval

Show the current staging diff. If validation passes, wait for my explicit approval before changing the live workbook. Use live apply while the workbook remains open, and report any Excel automation or VBA project access error instead of silently closing it.

Expected: deployment is blocked until confirmation and Companion asks locally.

Connector test guide

This guide is for directory reviewers and release testing. Use a clean test workbook that contains no confidential information.

Prerequisites

Test sequence

  1. Download Companion from your private access page, then choose Activate & Connect.
  2. Select the disposable workbook as Active and enable ClaudeVBA in Claude for Excel.
  3. Run examples 1–3 and verify the read-only and staging boundaries described above.
  4. Save the open workbook, approve example 4, confirm that live apply leaves it open, and test the macro. If Companion reports unavailable automation, follow the explicit close and reopen instructions it provides.
  5. Confirm that an unapproved deploy and a blocked high-risk API cannot proceed.
